Sheila Kay is a comedian and an actress. She was born, bred, married, spawned, and divorced in Detroit, Michigan…and to make matters worse she did most of that twice.
Her career started early. At 6 years of age, her parents acquiesced to her energy and talent and gave her enough lessons to be the next Sammy Davis Jr. She took tap, ballet, modern jazz, singing, clarinet, you name it, and she did it. She was a walking lounge act waiting to happen. But, she gave it all up for marriage and a family (once she got a little older). She kept the daughter, lost the husband, and renewed her career doing local theater in Detroit, helping with sets, writing, and acting. She eventually evolved from serious plays to comedic acting to stand-up comedy. Her sense of humor found it’s outlet and she became a full time comic (and mom) juggling her traveling career with raising a daughter alone. She traveled the road and became a regular on comedy shows like, EVENING AT THE IMPROV, MAKE ME LAUGH, CAROLINES COMEDY HOUR, GIRL’S NIGHT OUT, STAND-UP SPOTLIGHT, SHOWTIME COMEDY CLUB NETWORK, INTO THE NIGHT With RICK DEES (she co- hosted a show) COMIC STRIP LIVE just to name a few. She was twice nominated for best female stand-up at THE AMERICAN COMEDY AWARDS on ABC. Her acting career has included television appearances on PROVIDENCE, MURDER ONE, BEVERLY HILLS 90210, and a made for TV movie ONCE YOU MEET A STRANGER with Jacqueline Bisset. She is also unrecognizable in the movie “SWIMSUIT: THE MOVIE” shown on cable everywhere (Oh, what a fat suit and make-up can do!) and has four independent films out 10 ATTITUDES, CHASING INDIGO, DESTINATION MARS and WHAT ADAM KNOWS.
Currently Sheila is still doing stand-up and also touring America with her two - woman show she co-wrote, directed, and stars in, entitled “SELF-HELP THE COMEDY” an interactive spoof of a self-help seminar. She plays multiple roles and the reviews have been awesome. www.selfhelpthecomedy.com
